A scene from the comic opera Inkle and Yarico, first staged in 1787. The opera tells the story of an Englishman called Inkle who is shipwrecked in the East Indies, he is rescued by an Indian maiden and they fall in love. Once he returns to civilisation he plans to sell Yarico to recover his financial loses and marry Narcissa, however, Narcissa marries someone else and Inkle stays with Yarico.
