An album of 30 albumen-based watercolours in limp marbled wrappers. Album: 310 x 255mm (12 x 10"). Binding worn and some pages loose.
A collection of very fine watercolours, mostly of London, by the Rev. Thomas Bisse who lived at Portnall Park, now known as the Wentworth Estate, Virginia Water.. The collection includes views of St Pauls Cathedral, including an interior view, views along the Thames, a military inspection at Grays Inn Fields, bivouacked troops at Tothill Fields, a scene showing Princess Charlotte of Wales viewing his Majesty returning from Parliament House, a view of the dry dock in Deptford in July 1802 'before the water was let in', as well as various scenes, many with interesting historical interest, in Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Greenwich and Kew.

An illustration from the 'Malefactors Register, or, a Tyburn and Newgate Calendar', showing a dissected corpse on display to a filled gallery. At the time the 'Company of Surgeons' had the right to use the bodies of executed felons for training and experimentation, which they did in front of the general public at the Old Bailey. However the masses considered the mutilation part of the punishment, a contination of the tradition of hanging, drawing and quartering.
