Lithograph. Sheet 215 x 160mm (8½ x 16¼"). Trimmed, corners snipped. A optical illusion print, with a landscape with a ruined castle that transforms into a portrait of Captain Rock, the mythical figurehead of an anti-British group in Ireland 1821-24. Proclamations signed 'Captain Rock' forbade anyone taking land from which a tenant had been evicted. A thousand incidents of murder, arson, rape and mutilation were reported. The 'Rockites' were supressed with 100 executions 600 transportations to Australia
