A view of Dam Square in Amsterdam shortly after the withdrawl of French troops. It was published in Robert Bowyer's 'Triumphs in Europe, in the Campaigns of the Years 1812, 1813, 1814 commemorated by a Series of Twelve Views...', which celebrated (prematurely) the end of the Napoleonic Wars. This work was republished the following year as 'An Illustrated Record of Important Events in the Annals of Europe', and again with an sister publication 'The Campaign of Waterloo' from 1816.

A view of Amsterdam from the harbour. On the reverse is the printseller's label of John Hogben Master of the Mathematical Free School, at Rye in Sussex, now Rye College. A wonderful & rare country printseller's descriptive label. The label lists the variety of books, prints and stationary he stocks including account books, penknives, pens, sealing wax, inks, mathematical instruments, globes, maps, spectacles and fishing tackle 'Sold as Cheap as in London'.

Nicolas Cleynaerts (1495-1542), Flemish grammarian and traveller. He prepared grammar manuals for Greek and Hebrew before turning his attention to Arabic, prompted by a desire to read the Koran. He learnt some Arabic from a Moslem slave before setting out for North Africa in 1540. Fifteen months in Fez ruined his health, so he returned to Granada, where he died in 1542. Published in Isaac Bullart's 'Académie des Sciences et des Arts'.

Portrait of Leopold (1790 - 1865), soon after his marriage to Princess Charlotte Augusta, the only legitimate child of the Prince Regent (later King George IV) and therefore heiress to the English throne, May 2nd, 1816 However, on November 5, 1817 she gave birth to a stillborn son and died the following day. Having lost the chance to be prince consort to the British queen (a role later played by Prince Albert) he rejected the throne of Greece in 1830, before accepting the role of first 'King of the Belgians' in 1831. His son was Leopold II, founder of the notorious Congo Free State.

Nicolas Rockox (1560-1640), Burgomaster of Antwerp and patron of Rubens. He is remembered by the Museum Rockoxhuis in his former residence in the city. Copy after Rubens by the Scottish painter and etcher Andrew Geddes (1783-1844). The Oxford DNB states that 'as an etcher Geddes ranks higher than as a painter; his plates may be regarded as among the very earliest examples in modern British art of the brilliancy, concentration, and spirited selection of line proper to a ‘painter's-etching’'. This plate is one of ten he published in 1826.

Spanish triumphal arch, from a festival book commemorating the entry of the Archduke Ernst into the city the previous year ('Descriptio Publicae Gratulationis, Spectaculorum, et Ludorum [...]' by Jean Boch). The book was first published by the great Antwerp publisher Johannes Moretus in 1595, but this is possibly from a later edition. Ernst (1553-95) became Governor of the Catholic provinces in the Low Countries after the death of the Prince of Parma in 1592.

One of 830 emblematic views made for Daniel Meisner's (1585-c.1625) 'Thesaurus philopoliticus', also called 'Politisches Schatzkästlein', published in two volumes, 1623-26 and 1627-32. Each volume contained eight parts of 52 prints per part (there is one part containing merely 50 prints). Kieser made some of the etchings himself; others were made by Sebastian Furck, Georg Keller, Matthäus Merian and Johann Eckard Löffler among others.

Figures inside the Stock Exchange at Antwerp in Belgium, built in 1531. It was the first building in the world designed as stock and trade exchange. The entire complex burned down in 1858. The present construction is the 19th century neo-gothic renovation. This original building was greatly admired by everyone, including Queen Elizabeth I of England, and the architecture heavily influenced Gresham's Royal Exchange of London. By Louis Haghe (1806-1885) for the First Series (of 3) of his 'Sketches in Belgium and Germany' (1840-50).

William Frederick (William I), born Willem Frederik Prins van Oranje-Nassau (1772 - 1843), was a Prince of Orange and the first King of the Netherlands. Feeling threatened by Napoleon who had escaped from Elba, William proclaimed himself King of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands on 16 March 1815 at the urging of the powers gathered at the Congress of Vienna. His son, the future king William II, fought as a commander at the Battle of Waterloo. These are two handsome views of his inauguration procession through the streets of Brussells. We have been unable to trace another.

An amalgam of a prospect of Ypres with a the decorative medallion portrait of Louis de Bourbon, Prince of Condé (1621-86) when still Duc d'Enghien, from a similar prospect of Mainz. It shows Ypres during the Thirty Years' War, with skirmishes on the fields in front of the city and was drawn by Sebastian de Pontault Beaulieu (c. 1612-74), a military engineer who drew plans of the fortifications of the cities of Europe. The view is within a separately-printed frame-like border (a feature than make Beaulieu's plans instantly recognisable), which has been cut down to find the smaller Ypres prospect.

A view of the port of Delft, looking towards the Delftse Schie, with parallel text in French. In 1893 the Schie became part of the Rhine-Schie canal extending to Leiden. From a series of around thirty views of the Hague and nearby towns by Hendrik Florisz Scheurleer Fz [junior] (c.1724-1768). Scheurleer had connections with England, occasionally printing for British publishers and in 1754 bringing out an English guide to the Netherlands. He is also remembered for instigating the first circulating library in the Netherlands (in 1750).

A prospect of the town of Dunkirk. During the Dutch Revolt, Dunkirkers (raiders in the pay of the Spanish monarchy) operated out of Dunkirk, Ostend and Nieuwpoort. Throughout the Eighty Years War the Dunkirkers were constantly under fire from the fleet of the Dutch Republic. From 'Beschryvinghe van alle de Nederlanden...' Willem Jannsz Blaeu's 1612 edition of Lodovico Guicciardini's (1521-1589) description of the Netherlands.
