Two fascinating documents relating to the transition from General William Hargrave to General Humphrey Bland as Governor of Gibraltar (a position Bland held between 1749 and 1754), reflecting back on Hargrave's finances and recording staff appointed by Bland. Also referred to in the documents are George Burges (governor's secretary), Richard Daures (collector of duties) and John Cruchet (inspector of rum). From: Charborough House, residence to the Erle-Drax family.

Richard Clark (1739-1831) was a solicitor who later became Alderman, Sheriff and ultimately Lord Mayor in 1784. He was anti-slavery and a defender of rights for the poor. This letter is to subscribers of a magazine encouraging donations for the charity.

Although dated 21 December, 1844 the panorama appeared on 11 January, 1845. It was divided into four sections on a sheet measuring 31½ inches by 42½ inches, so that when joined up into a continuous strip the print would measure 5½ inches by 148½ inches.
