Probably an illustration to the 'Fermiers généraux' edition of the 'Contes' (tales) of Jean de la Fontaine, after a design by Charles Eisen (1720-78), painter, draughtsman and illustrator. It was through his drawings, engraved to illustrate nearly 400 books, that Eisen's reputation was chiefly established. These also included editions of Lucretius, Ovid, Tacitus, Virgil, Boccaccio, Ariosto, and Erasmus.

The highwayman William Hawke (d.1774) was transported to America for his crimes before resuming them on his return to England. This print shows Hawke (on left, with pistol) robbing Mr. Hart and Captain Cunningham in Knightsbridge or Fulham (accounts differ), firing a pistol when the victims refused his demands for money. For this crime Hawke was executed at Tyburn on 1 July 1774. Engraving published in the 'Tyburn Chronicle'.

The death of Catherine Hayes (1690-1726) who, with the help of two associates, beat her husband to death before dismembering him and hiding parts of his body in various locations in London. Hayes was tried and sentenced to be burnt at the stake, and after an unsuccessful attempt to poison herself, she became the last woman in England to be burnt alive for petty treason. An invitation to a viewing of ''The Christening of The Prince of Wales, 25 January 1842''. It was painted with the support of Prince Albert, who arranged the ceremony so everyone's face could be recorded by Hayter. Completed it 1845, the queen disliked the painting, saying it was too big to hang, so it remained unsold until Hayter's death, when the Lord Chamberlain’s Department bought it at a reduced price. Thomas Chapman Brown and Joseph J Hewitt were printers who opened Leicester's first photographic studio in 1844 (at the Bible and Crown, 36 Market Place), with a daguerreotype licence.

Hercules as a young man, visited by the figures of Vice and Virtue, who offer him the choice between a pleasant and easy life or a severe but glorious life. Hercules, of course, chose the latter. From a collected edition of the engravings by Sir Robert Strange (1721-92) after famous paintings, in this case one by Poussin, c.1636, owned by Henry Hoare (1705-85), a banker and patron of art, who built Stourhead in Wiltshire, where it still resides.

Thomas Howard, fourteenth earl of Arundel, fourth earl of Surrey, and first earl of Norfolk (1585-1646), art collector and politician. Etching by Wenceslaus Hollar, who had known Arundel since 1636. Hollar moved to London, where he lived Arundel House and was employed making etchings and engravings from the earl's collection. This print, however, was made after Hollar moved to Antwerp in 1644 to escape the political climate in England (Arundel was also in Antwerp at this time). Engraved after Van Dyck published in the 'Iconography' series of prints after Van Dyck portraits by leading printmakers ('Icones Principum Virorum').
