Head of Prince Edward, Duke of York (1739-1767), younger brother of George III of the United Kingdom, the second son of Frederick, Prince of Wales and Augusta of Saxe-Gotha. Admiral and second in command of the Channel Fleet with Earl Howe as his flag captain. He took part in the expedition to Cherbourg in 1758, Quiberon Bay in 1759 and against Manilla in 1761. By Thomas Worlidge (1700-66). Posthumous impression: after Worlidge's death, his prints were republished by his widow with numbers added in the plate corners to correspond with her 1767 sale catalogue of Worlidge prints. This impression postdates that sale, with the number erased. The 'English Rembrandt', Worlidge (1700-66) was a pupil of Alessandro Maria Grimaldi, whose daughter Arabella he married.

A cameo of ancient philosopher Epicurus, founder of Epicureanism, a school of philosophy holding that pleasure is the greatest good (although obtained through living modestly and gaining knowledge of the workings of the world). From a collection of 180 prints the 'English Rembrandt' Thomas Worlidge (1700-66) made from antique gems.

John Evelyn (1620-1706) the English writer, gardener and diarist, whose diaries, like those of Pepys, are significant records of 17th-century life. Both he and Pepys corresponded frequently, and much of this correspondence has been preserved. Etching by Thomas Worlidge, the 'English Rembrandt', after Nanteuil and used as the frontispiece to 'Sculptura' (1755).

Scarce portrait of Simon Fraser (1729-1777), army officer. Fraser served at Louisburg and fought under General Wolfe at Quebec in 1759 in the Seven Years' War. In the American War of Independence he was posted on the St Lawrence River in 1776, and was involved in attacks in upstate New York and Vermont before he was mortally wounded in the battle of Bemis Heights (near Saratoga, New York). Interesting posthumous impression of an etching by Thomas Worlidge (1700-66). Worlidge etched this plate in 1751 without aquatint, which had not been used in England at the time. After Worlidge's death, his plates were sold at auction and Robert Pollard published this impression in 1790, presumably after having the aquatint added to capitalise on the widespread use of the medium in the late 18th century. Born in Peterborough, Worlidge was a pupil of Alessandro Maria Grimaldi, whose daughter Arabella he married. His widow issued his plates in 1766 and 1767 afater his death with the numbers in the corners, but very few impressions were issued and sold by Worlidge during his lifetime.

When I cam first to live at Bolton, I was told several particulars of the great age of Henry jenkins; but I believe little of the story for many years...where Henry jenkins, of Ellerton upon Swale, labourer, aged 157 years, was produced, and deposed as a witness. Epitaph, on a Monument erected at Bolton in Yorkshire, by the Subscription of several to the Memory of Heny Jenkins...A life of labour, and a mind at ease, He lived to the amazing age of 169. Was interr'd here December 6, 1670, And has this justice done to his memory, 1743.

Henry Jenkins (d.1670) was known as 'the Modern Methuselah'. Worlidge's etching was the first printed image of the sitter, after which several further versions of the image were made. Extensive letterpress below describing events from Jenkins' life and copying an epitaph dedicated to him. First edition of the plate before it was reissued by Bowles and Carver.

Half-length portrait of Henry Jenkins (died 1670), a reputed centenarian, below which is an engraved text biography written by Mrs Anne Saville and the text of a memorial inside Bolton-on-Swale church. His life supposedly spanned the reigns of monarchs from Henry VII to Charles II. In 1667 Jenkins stated on oath that he carried arrows to the English archers at the Battle of Flodden Field (1513). First published in 1752, this plate originally had the title outside the printed border, but the plate has been cut down and title lowered.
