An engraved tourist's souvenir. A view of the famous petrifying well at Knaresborough, near Harrogate, Yorkshire, known as the 'Dropping Well', with the river Nidd and ruins of Knaresborough Castle in the background to the left. Objects placed underneath the limestone rich waters of the spring are 'petrified', giving them a stone like appearance. Mother Shipton's cave, said to be the dwelling of Ursula Southeil, (c.1488 - 1561) who foretold modern events and phenomena, is part of the same attraction and has been open to the public since the 17th century. Engraved by etcher and copperplate printer Christopher Lee, who traded from addresses in Leeds from 1791 to 1811. He may have supplied the engraved plates for transfer-printed decoration on 'Black or Blue Ware' manufactured by the Leeds pottery.

After his death owners included Lord Grantham, his nephew, and the 2nd Earl of Ripon. The present owners are matrilineal descendants of William Weddell. The hall was used as a location for ITV's production of Jane Austen's 'Mansfield Park' in 2007.

View of 'The Devil's Arrows', standing stones found in Boroughbridge, a small settlement in the parish of Aldborough. The National Gazetteer of England and Wales 1868 reported: "Near Boroughbridge are three obelisks roughly shapen of ragstone, about whose origin and character antiquarians are not agreed. They are locally named the Devil's Arrows or Bolts, and by different authorities have been assigned to a British, a Roman and a Celtic origin." There may originally have been even more standing stones here.

A view of Sandal Castle near Wakefield, Yorkshire, reissued in the Society of Antiquaries's 'Vetusta Monumenta', with a description under the view. It was one of the castles belonging to Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York, whose attempt to win the English throne came to an end nearby at the Battle of Wakefield in 1460. This view comes from an Elizabethan sketch, showing the castle before it was destroyed in the English Civil War. On of the final prints engraved by the prolific George Vertue (1684-1756).

A view looking over to Scarborough bridge. In the foreground fisherman weave nets and sit on the edge of the pier. Along the shoreline are people promenanding and using bathing machines; traditional beach huts on wheels, which allowed people to change inside and then step directly into the water having been walked down to the water's edge by horses. It was at Scarborough, the world's first seaside resort, that they started their nationwide use.

An early design for what became the Grand Hotel, by the same architect Cuthbert Broderick (1821-1905), lacking the four distinctive turrets in the corners. A pencil note, 'received by Post from Mr Theakston 20 June 1862', suggests it was printed the year before construction began. However it imagines the hotel complete, with promenaders, riders and swimming huts on the beach By the time the building was completed in 1867 it had cost £100,000 and was the largest brick building and the largest hotel in Europe.

The first service by the Skelton boat took place on 12th October 1824, when the Sunderland brig "Hebe" was wrecked in the South Bay. The seven crew of the brig were saved, and silver medals were subsequently awarded to James Fowler and Smith Tindall for their gallant conduct during the rescue. As far as can be ascertained, these were the first medals awarded to men of the Scarborough lifeboat.

He built the present Sewerby Hall between 1714 - 1720, replacing the manor house which had existed on the site for many years.

A reconstruction of Tickhill Castle, on the borders of the Nottingham - West Riding of Yorkshire border, engraved by Vertue for the Society of Antiquaries. Outside the castle's walls are two watermills and a windmill. It was one of the last strongholds of Prince John during his usurpation of Richard I's rule in 1194; in 1372 it was given to John of Gaunt by Edward III in exchange for the Earldom of Richmond; and it was a royalist stronghold during the Civil War until it was taken by John Lilburne and razed in 1648.
