A portrait of the Italian explorer Sabastian Cabot (c.1474-1557) in old age, measuring a globe with a pair of compasses. He searched North America looking for the North West Passage for the English and explored South America for the Spanish. From "Memoirs of Bristol".

Engraving of shells found in Tenby, South Wales, after a drawing by the topographical artist Charles Norris (1779-1858) who moved there in 1810. In Tenby Norris researched architectural antiquities, and published several volumes of prints made from his drawings.

View of the front of the European Magazine's office on Cornhill in the City of London. 'Asperne' in large lettering over ground floor bookshop window, to left a lane leading through to 'Cowper's Court'; two figures standing at entrance to lane include a dark-skinned gentleman in oriental dress. Bookseller and publisher James Asperne (1757 - 1820) was proprietor of the European Magazine after succeeding John Sewell in 1803.

Coade Stone was a moulded artificial stone material with a hard surface finish, used for many types of monuments and other objects during the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. It wasn't until 1799 that John Sealy was made a partner in the company and the firms stampe became Coade and Sealy.

Engraving. Sheet 130 x 220mm (5¼ x 8¾"). Large margins on 3 sides.
The ornate funeral car designed to suggest the battleship Victory on which Nelson died, the car was decorated with a figurehead representing Fame. The coffin inside was made from the mainmast of 'l'Orient', the French flagship blown up during the Battle of the Nile (1798).
