Shepherd milking a cow while a shepherdess holds a bucket with city in background. Alpine scene by Gabriel Lory, the younger (1784-1846), Swiss painter, watercolourist and engraver. Lory's wife Louise de Meuron supervised the production and colouring of Lory's prints while the artist travelled abroad in search of commissions. In 1814, around the time this print was made, Lory arrived in England via Guernsey (Ackermann published an English translation of Lory's popular 'Voyage pittoresque de Genève à Milan par le Simplon' in 1820.
