In 1849, the old riverside fish market in the City of London ward of Billingsgate was moved off the streets and into this building, which was later demolished c.1873 and replaced by an arcaded market hall in 1875, now known as Old Billingsgate Market and used as a corporate events venue.

Located in the City of London, off Gresham Street and Basinghall Street, the Guildhall has been used as a town hall for several hundred years, and is still the ceremonial and administrative centre of the City, housing the offices of the City of London Corporation and various public facilities. A view of Aqaba in Jordan, at the northern end of the Red Sea. The artist, Robert Moresby of the Honorable East India Company's Navy, spent 1829 to 1833 as captain of HEICS Palinurus (seen here at anchor), working on the first accurate survey of the Red Sea, enabling safe passage of steamships from Suez to India and ultimately making a Suez Canal commercially viable. Moresby's original is in the National Maritime Museum.

Francis Goodwin (1784-1835) was an English architect, best known for his many provincial churches in the Gothic revival style, civic buildings such as the first Manchester Town Hall and the Macclesfield Town Hall, plus country houses such as Lissadell House, County Sligo. Born at King's Lynn, Norfolk, a pupil of J Coxedge of Kensington and later a pupil or assistant of John Walters. He exhibited in the Royal Academy on 1806 an 'Internal View of St Nicholas' Chapel, Lynn'.

Binswood Hall - Leamington College for Boys. This tudor style building was built in 1847. Amongst its successful pupils were Sir Frank Whittle, inventor of the Jet engine who was a scholar here between 1918 and 1923. The school subsequently became part of the North Leamington Community School and the hall is used as part of the Sixth Form Centre.

The match for the Royal Squadron's cup at Cowes in August 1844. This was the most notable victory for Alfred Paget's pioneering 25-ton iron cutter yacht 'Mystery', built in 1842. No less than fourteen Royal Thames boats took up this challenge and, following Mystery's win, 35 seconds ahead of her nearest rival, she led the Thames contingent up the Solent in a triumphant cavalcade. Lord Alfred Paget, who later sold the yacht to Lord Seaham, was subsequently Commodore of the Royal Thames Yacht Club from 1846 to 1873.

A view looking over to Scarborough bridge. In the foreground fisherman weave nets and sit on the edge of the pier. Along the shoreline are people promenanding and using bathing machines; traditional beach huts on wheels, which allowed people to change inside and then step directly into the water having been walked down to the water's edge by horses. It was at Scarborough, the world's first seaside resort, that they started their nationwide use.

Artist's impression and plan of proposed improvements to the area around Smithfield Market, the plan including three vignette views of proposed features. James Bunston Bunning's (1802 - 1863) designs were not in the end adopted. The present Smithfield meat market on Charterhouse Street was established by an Act of Parliament: the 1860 Metropolitan Meat and Poultry Market Act. It is a large market with permanent buildings, designed by City architect Sir Horace Jones, who was also responsible for Billingsgate and Leadenhall Markets. Meat has been traded at Smithfield Market for over 800 years, making it one of the oldest markets in London. A livestock market occupied the site as early as the 10th century. The lithography by George Hawkins (1819 - 1852).

Aleppo, the largest city of Syria. The artist, Captain James Fitzjames (1813-1848?) served on the Euphrates Expedition 1834-7: when the expedition floundered he volunteered to take the India Office mails on board 1,200 miles across Iraq and Syria to the Mediterranean and back to London. In 1845 he joined the Franklin expedition to the Arctic: according to the 'Victory Point note' Fitzjames became Captain of HMS Erebus after Franklin died in 1847, before he too succumbed to the cold.

He was a founding member of the Royal Mersey Yacht Club in 1844 and was Commodore of the Royal Yacht Squadron from 1849 to 1881.
