The work had a profound effect on how the European conception of Turkey. After Jean-Baptiste Vanmour (1671-1737), the Flemish-French painter, who Ferriol brought with him to Istanbul at the age of eighteen. Ferriol commissioned at least a hundred paintings from Vanmour, which served as the source for the engravings in the 'Recueil' and are now in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

The Armenian priest Dergoumidas is condemned to death by the Grand Vizier Alì Pascià for having converted to Catholicism, an episode which actually took place on 5 November 1707. Plate from 'Recueil de cent estampes représentant différentes nations du Levant', a set of one hundred plates depicting the costume of the Levant, based on paintings in the collection of the Marquis de Ferriol. After Jean-Baptiste van Mour (1671-1737), the Flemish-French painter, remembered for his his detailed portrayal of life in the Ottoman Empire during the Tulip Era and the rule of Sultan Ahmed III. The engraving was seemingly the source for G.A. Guardi's 'Dergoumidas Before the Grand Vizier', one of his 'quadri Turchi' painted for Field Marshal Count Johann Matthias von der Schulenburg (1661-1747). Guardi's painting was sold at Sotheby's in 2005 (Old Master Paintings Evening Sale, 7 December 2005, lot 61).
