It forms part of an 1838 series of lithographs devised by Bouchot for "Le Charivari" under the thematic title of "Erreurs". From 'Le Charivari', the illustrated newspaper published in Paris, from 1832 to 1937. After 1835, when the government banned political caricature, Le Charivari began publishing satires of everyday life.

Julie Dorus-Gras (1805 - 1896) was a Belgian operatic soprano. To begin her career she made a concert tour which took her to Brussels. Social satire: two French army veterans of the Battle of Isly (August 14, 1844) commiserate over a bottle of wine, one man complaining that the only booty captured by the French army was an umbrella and some pipes. The uniforms suggest that the man on the left is artillery, his comrade across the table infantry. The Battle of Isly was fought between France and Morocco near Oujda, Morocco. The French Marshal Bugeaud, who recovered the Moroccan commander's tent and umbrella (equivalent to capturing a military standard in European warfare), was made Duke of Isly for his victory. Numbered '69' upper right; from a series of caricatures published in a Paris periodical.

The Mausoleum of Mucdoom Shah is celebrated for its beauty; it was built at the beginning of the 16th century, in the reign of the Emperor Jehangire, by Mucdoom Shah, who was chief of the district. A small rnosque is attached to it, as well as a very considerable garden. The town of Moneah is situated on the east bank of the Soane, nearly at the junction of that river with the Ganges, about twenty-five miles westward from the city of Patna, India. A French copy of the plate by Thomas Daniell, R.A. (1749 - 1840) from his great 'Oriental Scenery' (1795-1808).

Feast in honour of Pan: people gathered on a terrace at the edge of a water in a wooded rocky landscape; on the left, a couple sitting and playing guitar near a grotto around which naked people are lying, pouring water out of bowls. In the middle, Harlequin and a man dressed in black reading a book while Pierrot plays flute (both characters in the Commedia dell'arte); on the right, satyrs, women and children sitting around a carafe of wine. The print was advertised by Veuve Chéreau and Surugue in 'Mercure', April 1734. After Antoine Watteau ( 1684 - 1721), from the 'Recueil Jullienne' series, Plate 228 to 'L'Oeuvre d'Antoine Watteau Peintre du Roy'. Jean de Jullienne (1686 - 1766) was a Parisian collector and patron of the arts who owned some 450 drawings by Watteau, and had them engraved.

An allegorical monument to Charles Sackville, 6th Earl of Dorset and 1st Earl of Middlesex (1638-1706), with a winged horse, putti and a pair of leopards.
From Eugene Mac-Swiny's 'Tombeaux des Princes, Grand Capitaines et Autres Hommes Illustres, Qui ont fleuri dans la Grande-Bretagne'. Owen McSwiny, former manager of Drury Lane and the Haymarket Theatres, had travelled to Italy where he bought works of Italian painters, including Canaletto, to sell to English collectors. He also planned a series of historical pictures to decorate the Duke of Richmond's apartment at Goodwood, commemorating the deeds of famous Englishmen.
