Engraving. Size: 320 x 470mm. (12½ x 18½"). Collector's stamp on verso of Dr. C. D. Ginsburg. Trimmed inside platemark. Repaired small hole to upper right in printed area.
Portrait of general and statesman Hieronymos von Erlach (1667 - 1748) standing behind a table, with the baton of his charge in his right hand and behind him, a helmet. At the outbreak of the Spanish War of Succession, Erlach joined the Austrian service and commanded as colonel in a regiment of the city of Bern. In 1721 he was appointed as head of the Schultheiss City and Republic of Bern. Inscription underneath in German with crest in the centre.
