Trimmed and tipped into album sheet at sides. A three-quarter length portrait of a nun, seated to the right, wearing the habit. Her right hand lifted to the edge of her veil, and her left hand is resting on an open book on a table beside her, below a crucifix and skull. The sitter is indentified as English nun Mary Howard, of the Holy Cross (1653-1735), daughter of English playwright and politician Sir Robert Howard (1626-98). CS 195 I of II.
