Modish. A remarkable fine Fox Hound bred by Colonel Thornton, Modish was the Daughter of Merlin & Rival both which lineally discended from the celebrated Ackham's Old Conqueror.

Rare aquatint with engraving. Sheet 445 x 560mm (17½ x 22"). Trimmed close to plate, some surface wear and toning, some repairs.
A fox hound bitch with litter. The dog's owner, Colonel Thomas Thornton (1757 - 1823), was a sportsman who wrote 'A sporting tour through the northern parts of England', 1804; and 'A sporting tour through various parts of France in the year 1802', 1806.

A pointer in undergrowth, tail up. It was a prize-winning dog, belonging to Colonel Thomas Thornton (1757-1823), a Yorkshire sportsman who is regarded as having rekindled British falconry. After Sawrey Gilpin (1733-1807)
