Francois Levaillant (1753-1824) the French author, explorer, naturalist, zoological collector and noted ornithologist. He published his 'Histoire des oiseaux d'Afrique' and continued to publish volumes on his bird discoveries. The portrait was published in 'Allgemeine Geographische Ephemeriden' (Universal Geographical Ephemerides (i.e. encyclopedia)) by Friedrich Bertuch et al.

Francois Auguste Peron (1775-1810), the French naturalist and explorer. In 1800 he joined Nicolas Baudin's expedition to Australia where he gathered some 100,000 specimens, which form the basis of the most comprehensive Australian natural history collection to date.
