Thomas Augustine Arne (1710 - 1778), composer, in a small oval on the side of a pedestal supporting an urn, from which a flaming phoenix emerges. Probably a frontispiece to one of his works. Arne's most famous work is the patriotic song, 'Rule, Britannia!'. He is buried at St Paul's, Covent Garden, London. The portrait after Robert Dunkarton (1744 - 1811?).

An allegorical figure of Flora, seated in a chariot drawn by winged cherubs, published as a vignette on the title page of Dr Robert Thornton's magnificient 'Temple of Flora', the grandest British botantical book. The absence of the artist and engraver's signatures and the scant inking of the letters of the title suggest this is proof impression of the vignette.

The bust of George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759), composer, as commemorative a coin or medallion (inscribed with the date 1784 in Roman numerals). Probably a frontispiece to a volume of Handel's works, numbered 'Pl.I' upper right. Born in Saxony, Handel settled in London in 1712 where for nearly fifty years he poured out opera, oratorios, concertos and occasional music. His Messiah, first performed in Dublin in 1742, became a national institution within his lifetime.

The Kalmuck or Kalmyk is the name given to the Western Mongols who inhabit the North Caucasus Territory of Russia. The Kalmyks migrated from Dzhungaria to this area in 1607. In this scene two Kalmyk horsemen, one of which is holding a bird, ride up to three young women conversing with a man smoking a pipe.

According to a pen annotation on verso, this is a headpiece to the London Almanac of 1794. The central design, a highly sentimental portrayal of the French Royal family inside the King's cell, is flanked by cannon and flag with a view of a chateau and guillotine through arched stone windows. On Monday 21 January 1793, stripped of all titles and honorifics by the Republican Government, Citoyen Louis Capet (King Louis XVI of France, b.1754) was beheaded by guillotine in the Place de la Révolution (now the Place de la Concorde), Paris.
