Louis-Léopold Boilly, (1761 - 1845), He studied painting as a teenager before moving to Paris in 1785. He created images of the Parisian Salon lifestyle with great detail of expression, gesture, costuming, and textiles. His most famous printed lithographs are 'Recueil de grimâces'. A caricature of an African family (five adults and a baby), with exaggerated racial characteristics, from Louis Léopold Boilly's (1761 - 1845) 'Recueil de grimâces' series of studies of facial expression and gesture.

Portrait of Jean-Baptiste Annibal Aubert du Bayet (1759-1797), French general and politician during the Revolution, show full-length in uniform, a battle raging behind. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he fought in the American Revolutionary War before travelling to France at the beginning of the Revolution in 1789. He began his political career with an anti-Jewish pamphlet 'Le cri du citoyen contre les Juifs', and was elected to the legislature in 1791. He served as President of the moderate 'Legislative Assembly' from 8 July 1792 to 22 July 1792, a month before the new National Convention took over, then as the Minister of Defense of France from November 1795 to February 1796. He was then appointed ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, tasked with helping Selim modernise the army. He died of fever in Constantinople in 1797.

Valentin Haüy in front of his brother Rene-Just Haüy. Valentin Haüy (1745-1822) was founder, in 1784, of the first school for the blind, the Royal Institution for the Young Blind in Paris. René Just Haüy (1743-1822() was a French mineralogist and is often referred to as the "Father of Modern Crystallography". Both brothers are buried together in the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise in Paris.

A troubled rosy-faced man with one eye half-closed, sticks his head through a panel of a broken window. A cat sits on the ledge licking itself. The Scissors, pot of dye and other tools suggest he is a cobbler.
