A prospect of the town of Dunkirk. During the Dutch Revolt, Dunkirkers (raiders in the pay of the Spanish monarchy) operated out of Dunkirk, Ostend and Nieuwpoort. Throughout the Eighty Years War the Dunkirkers were constantly under fire from the fleet of the Dutch Republic. From 'Beschryvinghe van alle de Nederlanden...'
